**Serbian Teachers Protest Outside Education Ministry**
A group of Serbian teachers held a protest rally outside the Education Ministry building in Belgrade. They were demanding that student demands be met.
The protesters blocked a central city street for four hours. Many educators and students, as well as parents and university professors, attended the event.
Teachers read out their demands, and the crowd erupted with noise from drums, trumpets, and vuvuzelas. The protesters showed solidarity with high school and university students who are also demanding changes in the education system.
The event included a 15-minute moment of silence for the victims of the Novi Sad tragedy. This tragedy occurred on November 1, 2024, when a concrete canopy collapsed at a train station, killing 15 people and injuring two more.
University professors from Novi Sad joined the teachers after running to Belgrade. They were welcomed with applause and chants of “Novi Sad”. High school students gave them certificates of appreciation.
A professor read out a declaration signed by over 800 University of Novi Sad employees. The declaration promised support for students until their demands are met.
Students from all over Serbia are continuing their journey to Nis, where they will hold another protest rally on March 1. Some students are walking or cycling to Nis. Locals have been welcoming them with fireworks, food, and music along the way.
