“Georgian Dream” has turned into a Georgian nightmare because it did not turn out to be what it claimed to be, said Democratic Congressman Steve Cohen during a hearing at the Helsinki Commission.
He spoke about the “MEGOBARI Act,” stating that it is unthinkable that it has not been passed, given the significant support it has.
“I don’t like judging people by their appearance, but when I first saw him [Bidzina Ivanishvili], he had all the signs -I didn’t know about Elon Musk back then -but he had all the signs I later saw in Elon Musk: rich, arrogant, elitist, with a high opinion of himself. And I thought, is this a positive figure?
‘Georgian Dream’ has become a Georgian nightmare because it did not turn out to be what it claimed to be.
Russia has seized part of Georgia and will do so again if given the opportunity. Now they have an ally there in the form of Mr. Ivanishvili, making it easier to conquer from within.
It is unfortunate that the Senate has not passed, and will not pass, the ‘MEGOBARI Act’ due to some issues.
But Mr. [Joe] Wilson is right; there is such a large majority, Democrats and Republicans, bipartisan support for the bill, which is almost unheard of, with significant backing. And it seems that one person managed to ‘kill’ it, which is astonishing that it happened, and I don’t understand why it happened,” said Steve Cohen.
