“We saw one of the individuals who climbed onto a police car. This person is today a personal prisoner of the shameful spectacle we witnessed in the European Parliament yesterday—this lady is a personal prisoner, and it is precisely their fault that she was incited to commit a crime and made to do so. Then they will appear on platforms comfortably, hold panel discussions, probably display this lady’s picture somewhere, secure grants, drink coffee, and engage in polite conversation,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili to journalists.
According to him, in reality, the people detained by the police are victims.
“I urge you to observe who is being detained by the police—these are exactly the victims destined to be cannon fodder by their organizers. Local organizers stand on the sidewalk, not taking a single step onto Rustaveli Avenue, while foreign organizers speak from platforms and incite them. Ultimately, it is precisely these people—weak, vulnerable, emotionally swayed—who are sacrificed to oppose and break the law, only to be portrayed as victims afterward. Therefore, I especially address those who have been so cold-bloodedly sacrificed by the organizers of this anti-Georgian campaign, both from outside and within the country. A clear example was Nona Lomjaria, who, when the avenue couldn’t be blocked on the first day, sparked panic on social media, saying, ‘Come on, everyone, block it,’ while she herself didn’t set foot on Rustaveli Avenue, observing from the sidewalk as people broke the law. Naturally, for breaking the law, they faced corresponding consequences. So, in reality, these people are victims, planned from abroad and incited, with one of the participants being the Finnish Foreign Minister, who came out and demonstrated by her own example that breaking the law is acceptable,” Papuashvili stated.
According to him, what we saw yesterday was absolutely unacceptable behavior.
“This exactly shows that there is an attempt by a marginalized, defeated, and disgraced minority—a few dozen people—to impose their hysteria on the entire city. This has one purpose: if you observed, these are staged scenes, theatrical performances to create visuals. If you look at X and other English-language social media, you’ll see that these scenes are created to stir hysteria afterward. However, today they are failing, like the shepherd who cried ‘wolf’ too many times, and no one believed him. No one will believe them, at least not those who genuinely analyze Georgia’s situation.
We saw one of the individuals who climbed onto a police car and, as I saw in the video, was also climbing onto a taxi driver. Yesterday, it was stated that she was detained under criminal law. For this behavior, this person faces 2 to 4 years [of imprisonment]. This person is today a personal prisoner of the shameful spectacle we witnessed in the European Parliament yesterday. When you glorify perpetrators, you produce new perpetrators. Just as they glorified Lazare Grigoriadis, and instead of one ‘Molotov cocktail,’ we got ten afterward—this is exactly what happened yesterday because they glorified perpetrators. So, this lady is a personal prisoner, and it is precisely their fault that she was incited to commit a crime and made to do so. Then they will appear on platforms comfortably, hold panel discussions, probably display this lady’s picture somewhere, secure grants, drink coffee, and engage in polite conversation,” Papuashvili stated.
