“I am confident that today will be a successful, democratic election day. Today, to some extent, will conclude the election cycle that began in October last year,” Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said after making his political choice in the local government elections.
According to Papuashvili, “even according to the opposition’s survey, the Georgian Dream has no alternative to this victory.”
“Today is the day of democratic elections. It is the civic duty of every citizen to make their own choice. We are electing our representatives in local self-governments. Municipalities are the bodies that have the greatest trust in our population. Our municipalities, mayors, and members of the Sakrebulo are the people who are in direct contact with citizens. They know all their worries and all their joys. So, today is an opportunity for our citizens in every municipality, every city, every village to elect their own representatives. I am sure that today will be a successful, democratic election day. Today, to some extent, the election cycle that began last October will be concluded. Last year, we elected the parliament, we elected the president. Now we are electing local self-government bodies. This will fully staff the elected bodies and by 2028 Georgia will have the opportunity to work with state institutions with a mandate from the people to increase the welfare of our country.
As for today’s expectations, you have seen that even according to the opposition’s survey, the Georgian Dream has no alternative to this victory. According to their own survey, Kakha Kaladze has more than 60% support. So, the opposition itself knows this. We said that our election goal is to win the first round of mayoral elections in all 64 municipalities and gain a majority in the councils. In this regard, it is important that 12 parties are participating in the elections. I wish everyone success in obtaining their opposition mandates.
Of course, the radical opposition must blame itself for everything. After the parliamentary elections last year, they decided to turn their backs on democracy, to go through radicalization and extremism, as they were instructed from the outside. Now they are reaping the consequences of their own radicalization last year,” the Speaker of Parliament said.
According to Papuashvili, those who “consider themselves children of democratic Georgia are going to the local elections today.”
“Today, the place of all patriots is at the polling station. Those who consider themselves children of democratic Georgia are going to the local elections today. Elections and only elections are what we have gained through the struggle for our independence and freedom. This is the only way to give a state mandate. I am sure that today our citizens will actively use this opportunity,” Papuashvili said.
