The goal of our membership in the European Union is truly a safer and more secure future.
In a social media post, Shalva Papuashvili noted that the fact that the EU was created for peace does not automatically mean peace.
According to him, Europe must not indulge in self-satisfaction. Georgians know very well that the distance from peace to war is a mere blink of an eye.
“The goal of our membership in the European Union is truly a safer and more secure future.
However, before reaching the destination, there is a journey. Knowing the coordinates of a safe harbor means nothing if, on the way there, the ship and its passengers are caught in a storm. Foresight, not recklessness, has carried the Georgian people through millennia.
In today’s chaotic world, our main concern is that, on the path to the EU, we do not damage or destroy ourselves physically or spiritually to the point that, upon entering the EU, we have nothing left to protect.
The fact that the EU was created for peace does not automatically mean peace. Being a peace project means being a responsible force. Europe must not indulge in self-satisfaction. Georgians know very well that the distance from peace to war is a mere blink of an eye.
The repeatedly debunked propaganda campaign initiated by the EU Embassy only confirms that they either fail to understand or refuse to acknowledge what the main concerns of the Georgian people are and what it means to drag the Georgian state and people into a storm.
Therefore, let me explain once again. If you want to be a peace project:
You should not demand escalation with Russia from a country that has endured war, as Brussels did.
You should not fund extremism, as Brussels did.
You should not interfere in elections, as Brussels did.
You should not slander a country, as Brussels did.
You should not meddle recklessly and shamelessly in the millennia-old values of Georgians, as Brussels did.
It seems so simple to say, yet so difficult to do, because painted propaganda-like Europeanness is not enough for this. True Europeanness is needed, meaning integrity, fairness, strength, and restraint.
Exactly the kind that the founding fathers of the European Union had 75 years ago,” Papuashvili writes.
Shalva Papuashvili: The fact that the European Union was created for peace does not automatically mean peace; being a peace project means being a responsible power – we Georgians know very well that the distance from peace to war is just the blink of an eye
