Parliament Chairman Sees No Point in Extremist Parties Participating in Elections
Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, spoke about the upcoming self-government elections scheduled for October. He expressed his thoughts on whether extremist parties should participate.
Papuashvili believes that the opposition will take part in the elections despite their previous statements. “October will come and they will participate,” he said.
He would prefer it if extremist parties did not participate, as this could help Georgian democracy start anew. This, according to him, would allow all extremist political groups to leave Georgian politics behind.
In recent times, some opposition parties have given up their parliamentary mandates. Papuashvili views this as a positive step, stating that it has freed the Parliament from radical and extremist groups that are controlled from outside.
There is still one group remaining in the Parliament, led by Gakharia. Hopefully, they will leave soon too. If other opposition parties choose not to participate, this would be beneficial for Georgian politics. The country’s political landscape needs a reset, moving away from extremism and groups that work against national interests.
