**Brussels’ Blurred Lines: A Growing Concern**

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, has issued a scathing critique of Brussels’ stance on European values. In a recent social media post, he accused the EU and its officials of increasingly identifying with hatred and violence.

Papuashvili pointed out that when EU representatives address the Georgian people, they often seem to be referring to a small, radical group of opposition figures and NGOs who spread intolerance and extremism in Europe’s name. These groups frequently receive funding from Brussels, which only exacerbates the problem.

**A Chilling Reality**

The Speaker highlighted two disturbing incidents that took place just hours after an EU Commissioner urged Georgians to “fight for European values.” First, a pardoned opposition leader named Gedevan Popkhadze warned of impending violence on May 26. Then, a Brussels-funded activist named Mariam Sichinava viciously attacked a member of parliament with explicit language and threats.

This behavior is not only unacceptable but also alarming, according to Papuashvili. He questioned whether the EU had lost sight of its core mission as a peace project. Instead of promoting unity and understanding, some European politicians and bureaucrats seem to be perpetuating division and hatred.

**Time for Brussels to Answer**

The Speaker called on Brussels to clarify its stance on these issues. Specifically, he asked whether the hate campaign and terror carried out by funded entities are considered “European values” worth supporting. If so, why? And if not, what concrete actions will be taken to address this problem?

Papuashvili’s criticism is legitimate and deserving of a response from Brussels. The EU must confront its own complicity in spreading intolerance and extremism within Europe.
