Those who, in the face of defeat, placed the weak, the elderly, and the vulnerable on the front lines and sacrificed them, and who now evade responsibility while speculating about the detainees, will face not only legal but also moral accountability, wrote the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.
As he noted, everyone knew they were sacrificing the country to chaos — “they knew it, and yet they went [to the October 4 rally].”
“Everyone knew everything.
They knew that at four o’clock on the 4th they were gathering to organize a ‘Nepal.’ They knew that if they achieved their goal and overthrew the government, they would pull out their blacklists and go through every name — deciding who would be hanged from which pole and whose family they would attack.
They would line up their targets against the wall, along with everyone who dared to defend them. Some would act, others would applaud, and a third group would film it on their phones. After all, they consider hatred to be their legitimate right.
Every single person who gathered at four o’clock on the 4th knew this — politicians and NGO members, adults and youth, doctors and engineers alike. They knew they were sacrificing the country to chaos. They knew, and still, they went.
‘Nepal’ did not happen. Blood was not shed. The country avoided chaos and a return to the 1990s. The destroyers of the nation’s future were defeated.
Everyone had a choice — to follow or not to follow, to go at four o’clock or not to go, to throw a stone at a policeman or not, to storm the presidential palace or not. Everyone made their choice.
Every choice has its consequence. Those who have the courage to make a choice must also have the courage to face its outcome.
And those who, in the face of defeat, placed the weak, the elderly, and the vulnerable on the front lines and sacrificed them — and now evade responsibility while speculating about the detainees — will face, in addition to legal, moral responsibility as well,” wrote Papuashvili.
