It seems the money received from Russia’s budget is begrudged for Georgia’s budget, said Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, commenting on the decision by Elene Khoshtaria, one of the leaders of the “Coalition for Change,” not to pay the bail imposed by the Tbilisi City Court as a preventive measure.
According to Papuashvili, if Khoshtaria had spared 5,000 GEL, it would have gone to Georgia’s budget.
“If she had spared 0.001% of the millions received from Russia’s budget for Georgia’s budget, that 5,000 GEL would have gone to Georgia’s budget, but it seems she begrudges this money from the Russian budget for Georgia’s budget,” Papuashvili stated.
For reference, the Tbilisi City Court imposed a 5,000 GEL bail as a preventive measure for politician Elene Khoshtaria, who is accused of damaging the election banner of Tbilisi mayoral candidate Kaha Kaladze. Accordingly, the politician will be able to leave the detention facility after paying the bail, for which she has been given a 20-day period.
Elene Khoshtaria has refused to pay the bail.
“Paying bail and getting out that way is not being released; it’s paying a tribute to open the prison door, which, of course, I will not pay.
Someone paying my bail would be like stabbing me in the heart, I won’t allow anyone to do that!” reads Elene Khoshtaria’s letter.
