It is shocking when an accredited diplomat of a foreign country meets with an extremist politician in an informal setting after she commits a crime – it is precisely such thoughtless or deliberate steps that fuel extremism in Georgia. Elene Khoshtaria is an extremist politician whose stated goal is to prevent Georgian citizens from expressing their will in the elections on October 4, – said the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, responding to information spread in the media, according to which one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Elene Khoshtaria, met with the Dutch Ambassador in an informal setting after damaging the election banner of the Georgian Dream Tbilisi mayoral candidate, Kakhi Kaladze.
According to him, if the information is confirmed, this will be an example of interference in the Georgian elections.
“We often talk about this, to be honest, I’m tired of mentioning the Vienna Convention, I don’t know how many times we have to remind diplomats accredited in Georgia that they have no right to engage in politics. After Elene Khoshtaria committed a politically motivated crime, damaged the election banners of a party participating in the elections, then, it seems, the ambassador invited an extremist politician to a personal meeting. Such informal meetings are a demonstration of personal attitudes and support, which is shocking when an accredited diplomat of a foreign country meets an extremist politician in an informal setting, after she commits a crime.
It is precisely such thoughtless and deliberate actions that incites extremism in Georgia. Elene Khoshtaria is an extremist politician, whose stated goal is to prevent people from expressing their will in the elections and disrupt the elections. Her declared plan is to violently change the government, she talks about coups and overthrows. The ambassador shows personal relations and support to such an extremist politician, in an informal setting, although if this were a formal meeting, this would also be a problem.
This is an example of interference in the Georgian elections, if it is true,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
For information, on September 14, Elene Khoshtaria made an inscription “Russian Dream” on Kakha Kaladze’s banner near his election headquarters. She herself shared the corresponding video on social networks and stated that in this way she expresses solidarity with Megi Diasamidze, who was arrested a few days ago for damaging Kakha Kaladze’s election banner.
