“What was obvious to every Georgian — that the appearance of Finland’s Foreign Minister in front of Parliament signaled support for radicals — has proven true. This kind of reckless activism exemplifies the current foreign policy of the European Union,” writes Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on platform X.
According to Papuashvili, “After exposing support for internal terrorists, a responsible politician would resign from the position of the OSCE Chairperson.”
“When the Finnish Foreign Minister and acting OSCE Chairperson was filming a video, it became clear that at that moment he was speaking with a representative of an extremist group.
In another video, Mariam Meqantsishvili — the extremist who, in front of the minister, expressed dissatisfaction with the ‘low level of democratic standards’ in Georgia — is shown as one of the organizers of the violent crowd during the October 4 attack on the President’s residence. These clips were released today by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia following her arrest.
When a European politician is seen in close proximity to individuals involved in internal terrorism, does it mean they are unaware of what they are doing, or are they deliberately justifying evil? Both answers are worse than the other.
What was obvious to every Georgian — that the minister’s appearance in front of Parliament represented support for radicals — has been confirmed. This kind of reckless activism exemplifies the European Union’s current foreign policy. We, as Georgians, have no right to pursue or tolerate such thoughtless politics, as it is dangerous and foreign to our values. In reality, this is the real problem Brussels has in its relationship with Georgia.
I fully realize that calls for proper conduct are ineffective. However, after exposing support for internal terrorists, a responsible politician would resign from the position of the acting OSCE Chairperson,” Papuashvili wrote on social media.
