**Serbian Church Distances Itself from Opinion Piece**
The Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) has distanced itself from an opinion piece that criticized protesting students on its website. The church says the article does not reflect the views of its head, Patriarch Porfirije.
The opinion piece was written by a staff member at the SPC’s headquarters and criticized students who were thrown out of a ceremony for standing up to read a poem. It called their actions “anti-St Sava” and “anti-Christian”.
**Church Denies Involvement**
The SPC says that the article is just one of many opinion pieces on its website and does not reflect the church’s views. The church claims that the article was written in response to videos of students disrupting a university play and blocking three schools.
**Patriarch Speaks Directly to Students**
The SPC statement said that Patriarch Porfirije always speaks directly to students, rather than through statements like this one. The church added that the patriarch’s messages are available online and do not give cause for hate speech or incorrect interpretations of his views.
