**Scholz Talks to Putin**
German leader Olaf Scholz spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone. They talked for one hour.
This conversation was important, according to Scholz. He wanted to make sure that Putin knew the West’s support for Ukraine is not weakening.
The call happened just before Scholz left for a meeting of world leaders in Rio de Janeiro.
