**Warning Over EXPO 2027 Project**
The Green-Left Front (ZLF) co-president, Radomir Lazovic, has written an open letter to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He warned the chancellor that the EXPO 2027 project in Belgrade is “deeply problematic and corrupt”.
Lazovic said the project does not serve the interests of Serbian citizens. The ZLF claims that the project is a way for the ruling party to funnel public funds into private pockets.
**Corruption Allegations**
The ZLF says Lazovic detailed mechanisms and schemes used by the ruling party regarding EXPO 2027. He mentioned companies linked to the ruling party, which have benefited from state contracts. Some of these companies are under US sanctions for organized crime.
Lazovic also said that the government has introduced special laws to favor contractors without competition or transparency. This allows them to choose who gets contracts and how they are paid.
**Billions in Debt**
The ZLF claims that the Serbian authorities plan to borrow billions of euros for EXPO-related infrastructure. The burden of repaying these debts will fall on Serbian taxpayers, while profits will go to private companies close to the ruling party.
Lazovic told Scholz that Germany has a choice: stand with Serbian citizens demanding accountability and rule of law, or support a corrupt project that undermines democracy.
