**German Chancellor Says Talks on Deploying Peacekeepers to Ukraine are Premature**

Germany’s leader, Olaf Scholz, said it is too early to talk about sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine. In an interview on February 8, he said such talks were “premature and inappropriate.”

Scholz told the German newspaper RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND) that before discussing security guarantees for Ukraine, there must be an end to the conflict and real negotiations. He also said that it is assumed that Ukraine will not get back parts of its territory from Russia.

This comes as Ukraine struggles to hold onto land in the east against Russian offensives. The country has lost several towns recently and is short on manpower and resources to defend its last strongholds in Donetsk Oblast.

The future of Western military aid to Ukraine remains uncertain, especially with the return of former US President Donald Trump, who says he wants to push both sides into negotiations to end the war.

Scholz also said that Ukraine will need financial help from its friends and allies to pay for its army.

**Other Countries Consider Sending Troops**
