**Georgia’s President Warns of Growing Authoritarianism**
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has expressed concern on social media about the country’s slide towards authoritarian rule.
In a post on X, Zurabishvili wrote that the outside world does not fully understand how one person is turning Georgia into an imitation of Vladimir Putin’s Russia. She specifically mentioned a recent decision by the ruling party to introduce new repressive measures, including increased fines and jail sentences for protest actions.
These measures will also prohibit protests in private spaces, Zurabishvili warned. The president’s statement suggests that freedom of speech and assembly are under threat in Georgia.
