Georgia’s President Salome Zurabishvili has responded to news that Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of Batumelebi, has ended her 38-day hunger strike.

In a message on social media, President Zurabishvili wished Mzia Amaglobeli strength and expressed support for her. “Thank you, Mzia! Mzia’s courage! Mzia’s health and victory in the fight for dignity!” she wrote.

Mzia Amaglobeli ended her hunger strike after hearing that people were concerned about her health and well-being. In a letter, she said it was difficult to hear about public concern while on hunger strike.

She plans to start eating again with the help of doctors in the coming days. Mzia Amaglobeli also asked others who are on hunger strike as prisoners of conscience to stop their protest as well.

Mzia Amaglobeli was arrested and put on hunger strike 38 days ago after being charged with assaulting a police officer. She had been protesting against the police chief Irakli Dgebuadze.
