Today, the opposition political field in the country is unprecedentedly weakened, but I do not share the opinion that starting activities in this dead, deceased parliament is any kind of solution, – one of the leaders of Strong Georgia-Lelo, Salome Samadashvili, stated regarding the decision of the Gakharia for Georgia party, according to which the party ends the parliamentary boycott and enters the parliament.
As Salome Samadashvili stated on Palitranews program, there are fears that someone’s entry into the parliament will give legitimacy to the Georgian Dream, but this government is already so damaged that this is simply impossible.
“I share the assessment that the political opposition is extremely weakened today. Many people are already openly talking about this, but I do not share the opinion that starting activities in this dead, deceased parliament, which has already violated the constitution many times, is any kind of solution. I share the opinion that the situation is extremely difficult, but I do not share the decision that they [Gakharia for Georgia] made. We always thought that it would be right for them to act the way the rest of the opposition did. They took a different path, and what this will bring to their party remains to be seen. One thing is clear to me that Georgian Dream will not be able to use this decision for its own benefit in any way. There are fears that someone entering parliament will give them legitimacy, but this government is already so damaged that this is simply impossible. Georgian Dream has already been deprived of legitimacy in every way,” said Salome Samadashvili.
Salome Samadashvili also spoke about the ministerial ongoing in Luxembourg, where the issue of Georgia was discussed.
As Samadashvili noted, a very important and new mechanism was created at the ministerial, through which it will be possible to revoke the visa-free entry to the European Union for a number of representatives of the Georgian Dream.
“It is unfortunate that the allies of the Russians are acting in this way on the instructions of the Russians, the Putinists are cooperating with each other, and Ivanishvili has protectors from the Kremlin who are protecting his regime from European sanctions. But there are also decisions that cannot be blocked by one specific state. Among them is such a sanction that a number of representatives of the Georgian Dream will be restricted and deprived of the visa-free entry to the European Union. This is a very important and new opportunity that has been created. It did not exist, and I assume that its use will happen precisely in the case of Georgia,” said Salome Samadashvili.
