**Tensions Run High in Georgia as Protests Reach 180 Days**
It’s been a long and tumultuous few months for the people of Georgia. Today, May 26, marks an important day in the country’s history – its Independence Day. But instead of celebrations, citizens are taking to the streets once again to express their discontent with the current government.
The final event of the series, organized by the “May 26 National Committee,” the opposition parties, and civil society groups, is set to take place on Rustaveli Avenue at 21:00 tonight. The event, titled “Georgia Will Protect You Again,” promises to be a significant gathering, with several notable figures in attendance.
In the evening, Georgia’s fifth president, Salome Zurabishvili, will address the crowds of protesters gathered on Rustaveli Avenue. Additionally, Members of the European Parliament who have traveled to Tbilisi especially for this occasion are expected to join the event.
Throughout the day today, a series of protests and marches were held across the capital city. Starting from various locations in Tbilisi, the processions made their way towards the legislative body, where citizens ultimately gathered to express their dissatisfaction with the government.
It’s worth noting that today marks the 180th consecutive day of protest in Georgia. Since November 28, citizens have been taking to the streets every day to voice their concerns and demand change. The ongoing protests are a testament to the people’s determination to bring about reform and hold those in power accountable for their actions.
