**US and Russia Talk Peace**
European foreign ministers and EU leader Kaja Kallis met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. They spoke after talks between the US and Russia in Saudi Arabia on February 18.
The US team met with Russian leaders Sergey Lavrov and Yuri Ushakov to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. But Ukraine was not allowed to take part in these talks.
Kallas said on social media: “Russia will try to divide us. Let’s not fall into their traps. We can achieve a just peace if we work together with the US – on Ukraine’s terms.”
No decisions were made after the meeting, but it caused concern in Kyiv and Europe. President Volodymyr Zelensky said before that no decisions about Ukraine’s future should be made without Ukraine’s participation.
Marco Rubio said the talks in Saudi Arabia were just a first step to explore peace. He claimed Ukraine and Europe would take part once official negotiations begin.
