**Russia’s Military Strikes Kill One, Injure Eight in Donetsk Oblast**
On May 17th, the Russian military launched attacks on various settlements in Donetsk Oblast, resulting in one fatality and eight injuries. According to Governor Vadym Filashkin, the drone strikes hit several areas, including Yablunivka, Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, and Andriivka.
**Yablunivka Hit by Drone Attack**
In Yablunivka, a 27-year-old woman lost her life when Russian forces used an FPV drone to strike the settlement. This was just one of several attacks carried out by Russia on May 17th.
**Civilian Car Struck in Andriivka**
Russian drones also targeted a civilian car in Andriivka, injuring five people, including one minor. Two other individuals were injured in separate incidents in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad.
**Widespread Shelling Across Ukraine**
Earlier in the day, Russian shelling hit 18 towns and villages in Donetsk Oblast, as well as other areas across Ukraine. This aggressive behavior by Russia has been ongoing since 2014, with increased intensity following their full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

For years now, Donetsk Oblast has been the epicenter of Russian aggression. The Oblast has faced significant fighting and bloodshed at the hands of Russian forces, making it a particularly volatile area.
