Russia Demands Changes from Georgia

Russia is asking Georgia to change its behavior. Russia wants Georgia to agree on border lines with the regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia that Russia controls.

Georgia has a long-standing dispute with these two regions. In 2008, Russia took control of them after fighting between Russian-backed forces and Georgian troops.

Russia says that if Georgia agrees to share borders with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, it would help improve the situation in the region. However, this is not likely to happen soon because both sides have different ideas about how to move forward.

In a recent statement, Russia’s Foreign Ministry mentioned that Georgian leaders made promises last year to be more conciliatory towards Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Russia wants Georgia to keep these promises and turn them into concrete actions.

Russia also complained about an annual resolution submitted by Georgia to the UN General Assembly, which talks about people who had to leave their homes because of the conflict in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
