**Europe’s Largest Nuclear Power Plant on the Brink of Russian Takeover**
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, is on the verge of being fully integrated into Russia’s energy system. According to Petro Andriushchenko, head of the Center for Occupation Research, the plant may already be physically connected to Russia’s power grid or will be within weeks.
To put this in perspective, countries like Slovakia and Finland have populations and electricity consumption levels that could be covered by the ZNPP’s output alone. Even Ireland’s annual electricity consumption of around 30-35 TWh is less than the maximum annual output of the ZNPP. This means that Russia is effectively gaining control over a massive source of electricity, which could potentially meet the energy needs of several European countries.
**Russia Builds Infrastructure for Nuclear Takeover**
Andriushchenko has revealed that Russia has completed the construction of a new power transmission line through the Mariupol district. The project involves connecting two key nodes in the southern occupied Donetsk Oblast to the Russian energy grid. He shares a map documenting the construction progress from February to April, which indicates that the plant is in the final stages of physical integration into Russia’s energy system.
The coordinates of the works are:
* 47°08’55.7″N 37°18’40.0″E – distribution node and compressor station
* 47°02’27.2″N 37°05’17.5″E – grid connection point
**Safety Concerns and Silence from Authorities**
Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been regularly reporting deteriorating safety conditions at the plant. The agency warns that military activity around the site increases the risk of both accidental and deliberate nuclear disaster.
What’s most alarming is the silence from the Ukrainian government and media regarding Russia’s actions. Andriushchenko notes that neither side is responding to this development, giving the occupiers a free hand to complete what he calls “the most dangerous energy crime of the war.”
**Consequences for Ukraine and Europe**
The consequences of this takeover are dire not only for Ukraine but also for the entire continent of Europe. Combat operations at the station can lead to a catastrophe that would have far-reaching and devastating effects.
Andriushchenko’s comments highlight the need for urgent attention from the international community, particularly from European leaders who may be directly affected by this development.
