A group called Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is calling on the Serbian authorities to stop violence against journalists who are reporting on protests in the country. The organization says that journalists have been physically attacked and insulted by police and supporters of President Vucic.
The RSF said that at least 12 journalists were assaulted during the protests, which started in November. They claim that security forces and members of the president’s party are trying to stop them from reporting on the protests by using violence, insults, and other tactics.
The RSF is demanding that the authorities take action against those responsible for the attacks on journalists. They say that this is an unacceptable violation of journalists’ rights and that all authorities must guarantee their safety at future protests.
The organization also mentioned that prosecutors have launched investigations into at least 4 assaults on journalists. Serbia is currently ranked very low in a world press freedom index, coming in 98th out of 180 countries and territories.
