If you are a big country, then you can bring strengthening by peace, but if you are a small country that does not have a large army, does not have access to the sea, what should you do? – This is precisely the wisdom of politicians, to understand the existing strength that every country has – not to fight with another country, but to cooperate, – Romanian MEP Cristian Terhes said in his speech at the Silk Road Forum.
According to him, even after World War II, European politicians found the strength and sat down at one table for dialogue.
“After World War II, politicians, state representatives from France, Germany, Italy, Belgium were the ones who had the courage and wisdom to sit down at the same table. Even though a few years ago they were killing each other. They thought about what we could do to bring peace back to Europe. By 1950, German and French politicians managed to sit down together and develop a plan. Today we call this the European Union, to establish peace and peace to bring prosperity. Prosperity is important. Many politicians and state officials say that “peace is good for strengthening.” Yes, if you are a big country, then of course you can bring strengthening by peace, but if you are a small country, what do you do? If you are a small country that does not have a large army, does not have access to the sea, what should you do? – This is precisely the wisdom of politicians, to understand the existing strength that all countries have. This is interconnection and cooperation. Not fighting with other countries, but cooperation. This is the guarantee that peace and prosperity will be established. Today we are concerned about a better future. We have now given the opportunity to representatives of different countries to come and present their ideas on how they can connect with each other in order to achieve peace and prosperity.
If Georgia is the gateway between Central Asia and Asia, Romania is the gateway between the European Union and the Schengen zone. If you bring any product from Central Asia, if you pass through Romanian customs, then it is already the Schengen zone and you can go directly to the European Union. This is a very big achievement. It depends on us to share with each other what we think. Let’s also gather our ideas and then, as mentioned in the previous panel, find ways not to compete, but to cooperate,” said Christian Terhes.
