**EU Not Considering Banning Russian LNG Until It Secures Alternatives, Reuters Reports**
The European Commission is not planning to propose a ban on Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports in its upcoming sanctions package. This decision comes despite Europe’s efforts to reduce its dependence on Russian fossil fuels after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
**Concerns About Alternative Suppliers**
EU diplomats told Reuters that they are concerned about securing alternative supplies from other countries, including the United States. One diplomat said that without a deal with the US, Europe would be left without gas from Russia and without US LNG.
**US Offers to Guarantee LNG Supplies**
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen suggested replacing Russian LNG with US exports in a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump. Trump later guaranteed supplies of US LNG to Europe, but did not provide a timeline or specify the amount of exports.
**EU Considering New Sanctions Instead**
The EU is instead considering new restrictions on Russian aluminum as part of its next round of sanctions. The decision not to ban Russian LNG imports comes amid growing concerns about energy security in Europe.
