**Protest Held Outside Vojvodina Ombudsman Office**
A rally was held outside the offices of the Vojvodina Ombudsman in Novi Sad on Wednesday. The protest was organized by the Free University informal academic network, which includes professors from the University of Novi Sad.
The protest was attended by several dozen university professors, citizens, and students. Even some employees of the Vojvodina Ombudsman’s office joined in.
Professors at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad said that the Provincial Ombudsman had remained silent about attacks on university and high school students.
Ivana Mihic, a professor, said: “High school and university blockades are not just acts of civic disobedience, but a way for young people to express their opinions, participate in social discourse, and demand respect for human rights and institutions’ functioning.”
A letter from former provincial ombudsman Petar Teofilovic was read out by Professor Jovana Skoric. The letter criticized the institution’s failure to protect human rights.
The crowd observed 15 minutes of silence in memory of the 15 victims of a recent collapse at the Novi Sad main train station.
Large banners were carried, reading “Novi Sad Free University” and others with messages like “A Diamond is Formed Under Pressure” and “We Don’t Live Under a Rock.”
