**Prosecutor Stefanovic Speaks Out**
Nenad Stefanovic, the Chief Prosecutor of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, has responded to claims that arrests being carried out are only done with government approval. He said this is not true and that the process against corruption is continuous.
**Fighting Corruption**
Stefanovic emphasized that the public only sees a part of the process, but it is always going on. When asked about non-governmental organizations (NGOs), he said those who haven’t committed any crimes have no reason to be afraid.
**Justice and Accountability**
He also stated that state officials are expected to speak for citizens, who want justice and an efficient fight against corruption. Stefanovic believes that this is what citizens feel, and it’s what needs to happen.
**NGO Checks**
When asked about checks on the operations of several NGOs, he said those who haven’t committed any crimes have no reason to worry. He added that serious accusations have been made by top US representatives and the FBI director against USAID and some Serbian NGOs for misusing funds and money laundering.
**Railway Station Collapse**
Regarding the case involving the collapse of a roof at the Novi Sad railway station, Stefanovic said there may be elements of corruption involved. He stated that the corrupt element is the failure to perform oversight duties and neglecting official duties, which are professional shortcomings.
**Investigation Details**
Stefanic emphasized that this investigation is unrelated to the financing of the project or potential corrupt criminal acts related to finances. That part of the procedure is being handled by a different office.
