According to Levan Vepkhvadze, the prosecutor in the case of Nikoloz Kristesiashvili, who is charged with the intentional murder of his wife, Alina Kaloiani, under aggravating circumstances, the accused admits to the crime.
As Vepkhvadze explained during the court hearing, the young woman sustained injuries primarily to her face.
“On August 25, during the nighttime hours, Nikoloz Kristesiashvili inflicted severe injuries on his wife, mainly to her face. The investigation has established that she had numerous injuries to her face. Additionally, he inflicted a knife wound to her neck, as a result of which she died at the scene…
The knife used was washed, as was the clothing, which was wet. Some of the blood on the walls was wiped off, and at the scene, he left two minor children who were asleep…
After some time, the accused turned himself in to the police. I don’t know what his motive or purpose was. He called his wife’s brother and told him that his sister was no longer alive and asked him to take care of the children,” Vepkhvadze stated.
Additionally, in a comment to “InterpressNews” after the hearing, Vepkhvadze noted that in the interrogation protocol, the accused denies any conflict with his wife but fully admits his guilt.
When asked whether it has been established how Khristesiashvili inflicted the injuries to his wife’s face, apart from the neck wound, the prosecutor stated that it is not ruled out that he may have done so with his hands.
“Given that the accused has an injured hand, there is an assumption that he may have committed the violence with his hands, which is evident at this stage. However, an expert will provide a more detailed answer on this matter,” Vepkhvadze stated.
For reference, Nikoloz Kristesiashvili has been charged under Article 11 prima 109, subsections “k” and “m” of the Georgian Criminal Code (intentional murder committed against a family member with particular cruelty), which carries a penalty of 16 to 20 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
According to the investigation, on August 25 in Tbilisi’s Zemo Ponichala settlement, the accused, with particular cruelty, inflicted multiple injuries to various parts of his wife’s body using a blunt object and a knife. As a result of the injuries, the victim died at the scene.
