You don’t need to worry about identifying individuals; our main task and concern in this case is to identify violent rally participants, and I want to assure everyone that if in the previous case we managed to identify only about 3% of the violent actors, only 3%, in this case, if there is violence, the identification rate of violent actors will be much higher, stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a briefing at the Government Administration, responding to a journalist’s question about whether he is instructing law enforcement to protect human rights and whether they will have identifying marks in case their actions exceed legal boundaries.
According to the head of government, his desire is to focus on potential violent rally participants rather than law enforcement.
“We are not only calling on but giving direct instructions to law enforcement agencies and personnel to strictly enforce the law within its framework and ensure compliance and execution of the law. This is our direct instruction and our public call. As for identifying individuals, you don’t need to worry about that; our main task and concern in this case is to identify violent rally participants. I want to assure everyone that if in the previous case we managed to identify only about 3% of the violent actors, only 3%, in this case, if there is violence, the identification rate of violent actors will be much higher. Today, I will focus only on potential violent rally participants,” stated Kobakhidze.
According to his assessment, the concept of a “peaceful revolution” does not exist in nature, and anyone who attempts to overthrow the constitutional order will face the government’s response.
“This is not a protest; it is a protest by a group of opposition-minded individuals – sometimes 50 people gather, sometimes 100, sometimes 150; their number reached 300 twice. This is not a protest by society. Tomorrow, you will see that society will come out, and hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens will support ‘Georgian Dream’ – this is the will of the people. The will of the people will be reflected in the elections, not in the rally of 50 people who come out and block Rustaveli Avenue. As for a peaceful revolution, this is an oxymoron or nonsense in essence; no peaceful revolution exists in nature. A revolution and the change of government can only occur through violence. Therefore, if they announce the overthrow of the constitutional order or its forcible change, let them go ahead and await the appropriate response from the state,” stated Kobakhidze.
