**Serbia’s Path to EU Membership**
The European Parliament’s representative for Serbia, Tonino Picula, met with Serbian Minister Tanja Miscevic in Belgrade. He said that Serbia needs to show it is committed to joining the European Union.
Picula told Minister Miscevic that there are still many problems in areas like justice, freedom of speech, and corruption. He also condemned false claims that the EU is involved in student-led protests in Serbia.
The European Parliament is willing to help restart Serbia’s democratic process, said Picula. This would involve using tools and initiatives already available.
Minister Miscevic said that joining the EU is a top priority for Serbia. She promised that her country will complete its membership obligations by 2026.
The two officials also talked about a draft report on Serbia that is being prepared in Brussels. Once approved, it will be a non-binding resolution that can guide EU member states and institutions.
This visit to Serbia marks Picula’s first trip as rapporteur for the European Parliament.
