**Photos of War: A Fallen Soldier’s Story**

A new exhibition in Portsmouth, England, shows the life and death of a Ukrainian soldier who was killed in battle. The photos were taken by Volodymyr Rakov, 30, during his time on the front line.

The exhibition, called “Souls and Bodies: Photographs by a Fallen Ukrainian Hero,” is a collection of everyday life moments for soldiers and animals caught up in the war against Russia. Rakov’s friend, Olya Andrushko, put together the display at Portsmouth’s central library.

Andrushko says that this exhibition is not about death, but about life. “Even in the darkest times, my friend found beauty,” she said. She remembers Rakov as a strong man who loved dancing and taking photos.

Rakov volunteered for the Ukrainian army in 2013, just before Russia’s invasion of Crimea. He became known for his kind heart, especially when it came to animals. Andrushko says that some of them are now safe because of him.

The exhibition opens on Monday, the third anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. A public flag-raising ceremony will also be held outside the Civic Offices in Guildhall Square.

**When and Where**

* The exhibition runs from February 24 to 27 at Portsmouth’s central library.
* A public flag-raising ceremony is scheduled for Monday at 11:00 BST outside the Civic Offices in Guildhall Square.
