“There is a real danger that Georgian citizens may lose visa-free travel, but the responsibility lies solely with the representatives of ‘Georgian Dream.’ We are actively working with our partners to ensure that sanctions target only ‘Georgian Dream’ representatives and specific groups, and not the entire Georgian society,” stated Petre Tsiskarishvili, the General Secretary of the “National Movement.”
According to him, Brussels’ decision will become known by the end of October.
“Unfortunately, there is a very significant danger that Georgia, and all its citizens, may lose the benefit of visa-free travel to EU countries. However, on our part, we are working very actively to ensure that only ‘Georgian Dream’ representatives and specific groups are sanctioned, and not the entire Georgian society. The potential consequence of the cancellation of visa liberalization is the result of the ‘efforts’ of these specific individuals, their anti-democratic steps, and the so-called ‘reforms’ that have led us to the point where we are no longer considered an acceptable partner for Europe. We are no longer aligned with Europe’s shared value system. Therefore, it is a very logical step on their part to consider ending visa liberalization with Georgia after eight years. However, we must consider the key point that nothing happens in the abstract. Today, unfortunately, Georgia is represented by specific individuals who made decisions that brought us to this point, and accordingly, measures should be taken against these individuals, not against all our fellow citizens. We have been working very actively with our partners on this for two months now, and ultimately, a decision from Brussels regarding this issue will likely become clear between the end of September and the end of October,” said Petre Tsiskarishvili.
