I would like to clarify and reiterate very clearly what I have sent you in a written response to your question. Yes, it is normal practice for all diplomatic missions to respond to letters received, – the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczyński, said when answering a question regarding the letter sent to Zviad Tsetskhladze.
“This is what all diplomatic missions are doing here, diplomatic missions of foreign countries in Georgia, and also Georgian missions in foreign countries. Citizens are writing letters to us, and usually we respond to those letters. This particular letter in question was about EU, possibly suspension of visas for Georgian citizens. I replied to this letter. Actually one of the members of my team replied to this letter. And of course, by replying to a letter, we do not necessarily share the private opinions of whoever sent us this letter, but it is a normal practice for any diplomatic mission to respond to the letters that are sent to us,” the ambassador noted.
According to him, during the three years of his tenure in office, he has always been ready to receive questions from all television channels, organize press conferences, and also respond to questions sent by e-mail.
“However, as I already told one of your colleagues from Imedi TV, if the question is: Mr. Ambassador, why are you an elephant? We do not respond to such questions. If the question is honest and substantive, you will get an answer,” the ambassador noted.
According to him, the EU Delegation sends dozens and hundreds of responses to Georgian citizens who have questions.
“By responding to a letter written by a citizen by my delegation regarding the visa-free regime, we simply did our job. I will not make a statement about the personal opinions of the addressee of the letter. The letter was addressed to me. We sent a response. We send dozens or maybe hundreds of responses to Georgian citizens who have questions,” the ambassador noted.
