**Georgian Parliament to Respond to US-Mediated MEGOBARI Act**
The Georgian Parliament is preparing to adopt a special statement in response to the MEGOBARI Act, which was recently supported by the US House of Representatives. The draft statement has been initiated by the Chairman of the Parliament and leaders of the Georgian Dream faction, as well as other political groups.
The document will be discussed at a session tomorrow, with Shalva Papuashvili, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, serving as rapporteur. According to Papuashvili, the statement is necessary to address what they consider to be false and distorted information in the MEGOBARI Act. “The so-called MEGOBARI Act was renamed,” he said. “What we read there was everything except friendship.”
**A Response to Misinformation**
Papuashvili emphasized that the Georgian Parliament’s statement aims to provide a factual response to the US-meditated act, which they believe misrepresents reality in Georgia. “The MEGOBARI Act is based not only on false facts but also distorts the existing reality in Georgia,” he stated.
**A Statement of Fact**
In his comments, Papuashvili highlighted the importance of basing assessments and responses on solid facts and arguments. “Our goal is to show everyone what the reality is and make our assessment based on arguments and solid facts. What we saw in the form of the ‘MEGOBARI Act’ adopted by the US contradicts any understanding of friendship,” he said.
The adoption of this statement reflects Georgia’s desire to clarify its position and provide accurate information about the country, especially given the sensitive nature of international relations. The Parliament’s move demonstrates a commitment to transparency and fact-based communication, even in the face of differing opinions.
