**PACE President Regrets Georgian Delegation’s Withdrawal**
The president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Theodoros Rousopoulos, has expressed regret over Georgia’s decision to withdraw from PACE. This comes after a vote by the Assembly to ratify Georgia’s credentials, subject to certain conditions.
**Georgia’s Credentials Suspended**
Earlier today, PACE decided to suspend many rights of the Georgian delegation’s members. These rights include participating in five out of nine committees, becoming rapporteurs, observing elections, and representing the Assembly at certain events. The suspension is a way for the Assembly to condemn Georgia’s police brutality and human rights abuses.
**Conditions Set for Reconsideration**
The Assembly also set conditions for reconsidering Georgia’s credentials in April 2025. These include:
* Holding new genuinely democratic parliamentary elections under strict international monitoring
* Resuming the European integration process
* Ending police brutality and human rights abuses
* Releasing all political prisoners before the next session
**PACE Seeks to Strengthen Participation**
The Assembly also aims to strengthen participation from Georgian extra-parliamentary opposition and civil society in its actions regarding Georgia. This is a step towards fostering dialogue and advancing democratic standards in the country.
