**Russian Missile Attack Kills Child, Injures Another in Zaporizhzhia Oblast**
A devastating Russian missile attack on the village of Dolynka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast has left a 9-year-old girl dead and a 16-year-old boy injured. The attack occurred overnight on May 31.
According to Governor Ivan Fedorov, one house was completely destroyed, while several other houses, cars, and outbuildings were damaged by the blast wave. The attack highlights Russia’s continued targeting of civilian infrastructure in aerial attacks against Ukraine since the start of its full-scale war in February 2022.
**Russia’s Intensified Aerial Attacks Despite Peace Talks**
Despite peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow in Istanbul on May 16, Russia has intensified drone and missile attacks against Ukraine. The talks were largely inconclusive, with Russia reiterating its maximalist demands that Ukraine hand over Crimea and eastern oblasts.
The two sides did manage to agree on a prisoner exchange, which was carried out between May 23 and 25. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin refused President Volodymyr Zelensky’s invitation to meet face-to-face in Istanbul, instead sending a delegation of lower-level officials led by Putin’s aide, Vladimir Medinsky.
**Ukraine Awaits Ceasefire Memorandum**
Kyiv is still awaiting Russia’s proposed ceasefire memorandum, with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stating on May 28 that Ukraine and Russia are slated to hold another round of peace talks on June 2. The attack in Zaporizhzhia Oblast serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
