 Employees of the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia arrested the representative of the mayor of Oni Municipality on charges of accepting a bribe. This was announced at a briefing held at the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
According to them, the detainee demanded 1,800 GEL from a citizen in exchange for the extraction of mineral resources, and was arrested at the moment of receiving the bribe.
“The employees of the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with the Shida Kartli and Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regional Prosecutor’s Office, as a result of operational-search activities and investigative actions, arrested Z.J., the representative of the mayor of Oni Municipality in the administrative unit of Shkmeri, on charges of accepting a bribe.
The investigation established that the accused, while exercising his official powers, for personal material gain and benefit, demanded and received a bribe of 1,800 GEL from a citizen in exchange for the extraction of peat, a useful mineral resource, within his jurisdiction, at which point he was detained.
The investigation is ongoing under Article 338, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment from six to nine years as a form and measure of punishment.
The Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia will continue to pursue a strict criminal policy against crimes committed in the financial-economic sphere,” the statement reads.
