**Ukraine Stops Creating New Military Brigades**
The Ukrainian government will no longer form new military brigades. This was announced by Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa in a TV interview on February 11.
Palisa said that instead, the government will focus on strengthening existing brigades operating in combat zones. This means they will replenish these brigades with new soldiers and equipment.
The Ukrainian army is changing its structure to introduce a corps system. This system replaces the current brigade-level system. Palisa thinks this change is long overdue and will make the military more effective on the battlefield.
Training for existing brigades will continue, taking into account problems that have arisen in the past. This might be related to recent controversies involving Ukrainian military units.
The Ukrainian government has faced criticism for shortcomings in its military. There were problems with a French-trained brigade and another unit was accused of abuse, extortion, and humiliation of soldiers by their commanders.
In response, President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed a military ombudsman to oversee conditions in Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
