**Trump Plans to Cut Most USAID Jobs**
US President Donald Trump plans to cut most of the jobs at the US Agency for International Development (USAID). This was reported by The New York Times on February 6, citing three sources.
**Big Cuts Ahead**
The number of staff worldwide will go from around 10,000 to just 290. This is a huge reduction.
**Administrative Leave**
All USAID employees were put on administrative leave starting February 7. This means they are not working but still getting paid.
**Contracts Cancelled**
The Trump administration also cancelled around 800 awards and contracts that go through the agency. This will affect many projects.
**Some Jobs Will Remain**
The remaining 290 staff members include those who work in health and humanitarian aid. These jobs are considered important.
**Trump’s Previous Moves**
This is not the first time Trump has tried to cut USAID. He put a freeze on all foreign assistance, including help for Ukraine, when he took office.
**USAID Taken Over**
The agency was recently taken over by the US State Department. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is now in charge.
