**Norway Reacts to Georgia’s Repressions**
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has spoken out against the current situation in Georgia. The ministry said that the country is moving away from a European and democratic path, which affects its partnership with Norway.
This change was marked by a government announcement to suspend EU membership talks until 2028. Since then, mass protests have been held daily in Tbilisi, but the authorities have responded with violence. Demonstrators were beaten on February 2.
**Norway Takes Action**
In response to these worrying developments, Norway has taken several steps:
* No new projects will be started with the Georgian government.
* Financial support for the government will decrease through international channels. Support for civil society groups will increase instead.
* Cooperation in the defense sector between Norway and Georgia will stop.
* Meetings at a high level between Norway and Georgia will become less frequent.
**International Pressure**
Norway is not alone in its concerns about Georgia’s situation. The country is working with others to hold Georgia accountable for its actions through international organizations like the Council of Europe. In December, Norway was part of a group that asked Georgia questions about its adherence to certain values and principles.
