Mzia Amaglobeli Continues Hunger Strike

Mzia Amaglobeli, a well-known Georgian activist, continues to protest against injustice through her hunger strike. This is according to Nona Qurdovanidze, the chairwoman of the Georgian Young Lawyers Association.

Qurdovanidze met with Amaglobeli and reports that she said: “I am not starving for any benefits, I am starving because of injustice.” Amaglobeli feels strongly that if she stops her hunger strike, it will mean she is complicit in the injustice.

Mzia Amaglobeli was recently sentenced to imprisonment by the Batumi City Court as a preventive measure. The court found her guilty under Article 353 of the Criminal Code for allegedly assaulting a police officer. However, many people believe this decision is unjust and that Amaglobeli’s actions were justified in the face of police oppression.

The charges against Amaglobeli stem from her detention during a protest at the main police department in Batumi. Despite being released briefly, she was detained again shortly afterwards. Many see this as an example of police overreach and are supporting Amaglobeli in her fight for justice.
