“I didn’t try to hide; I turned myself in to the police,” stated Nikoloz Kristesiashvili, who is charged with the intentional murder of his wife, Alina Kaloiani, under aggravating circumstances, during the court hearing.
Using a brief statement, he clarified that his minor children did not witness the murder.
“The only thing I disagree with is the claim that a child saw it. He was asleep. My wife’s brother was supposed to arrive any minute, and I was in an agitated state and couldn’t meet him. I didn’t try to hide; I turned myself in to the police,” the accused stated.
Prosecutor Levan Vepkhvadze responded, noting that if this fact were confirmed, it would be reflected in the charges, and therefore, the issue requires further investigation.
For reference, Nikoloz Kristesiashvili has been charged under Article 11 prima 109, subsections “k” and “m” of the Georgian Criminal Code (intentional murder committed against a family member with particular cruelty), which carries a penalty of 16 to 20 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
According to the investigation, on August 25, in Tbilisi’s Zemo Ponichala settlement, the accused, with particular cruelty, inflicted multiple injuries to various parts of his wife’s body using a blunt object and a knife. As a result of the injuries, the victim died at the scene.
