**Georgia’s Prime Minister Takes a Risk, but at What Cost?**
In a bold move, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has written an open letter to US President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, seeking to restore relations with the United States from scratch. However, this “all-in” gamble may have severe consequences, according to Nika Melia, a leading figure in the “Coalition for Change.”
Melia believes that Bidzina Ivanishvili, the mastermind behind Georgia’s ruling party “Georgian Dream,” knows very well that establishing a clean slate with the US requires holding new elections. But, as Melia points out, Ivanishvili is afraid of these elections.
**A Regime on Shaky Ground**
Melia notes that regimes like “Georgian Dream” rarely fall through a planned process. Instead, they tend to collapse suddenly and unexpectedly. And it seems that Ivanishvili’s regime is no exception. Melia predicts that the fate that awaits Ivanishvili will be a swift and unexpected downfall.
**The US Sends a Clear Message**
The United States has already responded to Ivanishvili’s overtures, making it clear that a clean-slate relationship can only be achieved through new elections, not under conditions of usurped power. This message was conveyed by the US ambassador and other American officials.
In essence, Melia argues that Ivanishvili is aware of what he needs to do to restart relations with the US, but his fear of holding new elections will ultimately lead to his downfall. The question remains: how far will Ivanishvili’s regime fall? Only time will tell.
