**US Ambassador to NATO: No New Military Aid for Ukraine as Washington Focuses on Ending War**

The US administration has not made any new decisions regarding military assistance for Kyiv, according to US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker. Speaking to journalists on June 4, Whitaker emphasized that Washington is focused on ending the Russia-Ukraine war and is counting on European leadership to provide Ukraine with the necessary resources to achieve a lasting peace.

The comments come as Kyiv’s partners gathered in Brussels for a summit of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG). The UDCG was launched by former US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in 2022 to coordinate assistance for Ukraine among some 50 countries. Current Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth relinquished chairmanship of the group to the UK and Germany, leaving Whitaker to represent the US.

**US Military Aid to Ukraine: A Shifting Landscape**

Since taking office in January, US President Donald Trump has not approved any new defense aid for Ukraine, instead vowing to broker a swift peace deal between Kyiv and Moscow. The assistance approved under the previous Biden administration continues to flow but is expected to run out in the coming months. Washington also provides Ukraine with crucial intelligence assistance.

The lack of new military aid from the US has raised fears among European partners that Trump might cut off all remaining support for Ukraine. This shift in policy comes as peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow stall, leaving many concerned about the future of Ukraine’s security.

**Europe Takes Up the Mantle**

Trump has repeatedly urged Europe to take up responsibility for backing Ukraine and its own security, shifting his strategic focus away from the continent. Under former President Joe Biden, the US was a leader in military donations to Ukraine, supplying some weapons that European allies struggle to replace, including air defense interceptors.
