**Russia to Stop Fighting in Ukraine When Negotiations Succeed**

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that his country will agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine only when negotiations bring about a “sustainable result” that benefits Russia.

Lavrov made these comments on February 24, as the White House announced that a peace deal with Russia could be reached this week. US President Donald Trump has been trying to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin and has scheduled another meeting in Saudi Arabia for February 25.

According to Lavrov, Russia is willing to negotiate with Ukraine, Europe, and anyone else who wants to help achieve peace. However, he emphasized that the outcome of these negotiations must be beneficial for Russia.

**Western Leaders Want a Deal**

Many Western leaders are pushing for a deal between Russia and Ukraine. The US has already held one round of talks with Russia, excluding Ukraine from the meeting. This decision was met with criticism in Europe and Ukraine.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced new sanctions against Russia on February 24, targeting its “shadow fleet” of tankers and companies providing military parts to Russia.

Ukrainian leaders are also urging for a deal. President Volodymyr Zelensky handed a document with all ceasefires that Russia has violated to US officials during their visit to Kyiv.

**More Sanctions on Russia**

As the situation in Ukraine continues, more countries have imposed sanctions on Russia. Australia and New Zealand have introduced new restrictions on Russian companies and individuals. Germany’s center-right CDU/CSU is set to return to power after parliamentary elections, with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) emerging as the second-largest party.

The UK will also impose a travel ban on individuals with ties to the Russian state or who have built their wealth through Kremlin connections.

**Support for Ukraine**

Many countries are showing support for Ukraine. The US has announced new military assistance, including infantry fighting vehicles and combat support vehicles. Canada is providing 25 LAV III infantry fighting vehicles, two combat support vehicles, and four F-16 flight simulators.

The European Commission has also pledged to provide a new payment of 3.5 billion euros ($3.7 billion) to Ukraine in March.
