Denmark Gives Ukraine $292 Million for Air Defense

The Danish government has given Ukraine 2.1 billion kroner (over $292 million) to help protect itself from Russian air attacks.

This money will be used to support the operation of F-16 fighter jets that Ukraine uses against Russia’s air targets. Denmark’s Defense Minister, Troels Lund Poulsen, said this is a priority because Ukraine needs to defend itself from Russian air strikes.

Denmark has already given Ukraine some F-16s, and President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Dec. 7 that the second batch had arrived.

In total, Denmark has given Ukraine around $7.5 billion worth of military aid since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. They were also the first country to directly buy military equipment from Ukraine.

Other countries are also teaming up with Denmark to support Ukraine, especially before a US change in government might affect their aid. A group of leaders from Denmark and other European countries reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Ukraine on Nov. 27.

They agreed that Russia is a long-term threat and called for stronger sanctions and better defense measures against Moscow’s aggression.
