**Drugs Crackdown in Adjara: 7 Individuals Detained**
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has announced that employees of the Adjara Police Department have detained 7 individuals on drug-related charges. This comes after a series of operational and investigative actions carried out over time.
According to the MIA, the detainees are accused of serious crimes related to narcotics. These include the illegal purchase and possession of large quantities of drugs, attempted sale of drugs, and cultivation of plants containing narcotic substances. The suspects also include citizens from neighboring countries: Republic of Moldova and Turkey.
The severity of the charges is highlighted by the potential punishment, which can range from 20 years to life imprisonment. This indicates that the authorities are taking a firm stance against those involved in the drug trade.
**Evidence Seized During Searches**
During searches of the suspects’ persons, residences, and other locations, law enforcement officials found large quantities of various types of narcotic substances. These include methadone, mephedrone, pregabalin (a psychotropic substance), and dried marijuana. Additionally, cannabis plants were seized from specially designed greenhouses used for cultivation by the suspects.
Furthermore, materials and equipment necessary for growing and packaging drugs were confiscated, including electronic scales.
**Investigation Underway**
The investigation is being conducted under various articles of the Criminal Code, highlighting the seriousness with which the authorities are treating these cases. The MIA has stated that the case is ongoing, indicating that further action will be taken against those involved in this crime.
