**Serbia in Crisis, Says MEP**

The European Parliament member Vladimir Prebilic from the Greens/EFA party has commented on student protests in Serbia. He said that the country is in a deep crisis and at a turning point.

Protests started after a tragedy at the Novi Sad railway station where 15 people were killed when a canopy collapsed. Since then, Serbian citizens have been demanding justice and protesting against corruption.

The ruling SNS party has taken control of important institutions like the police, judiciary, and media. This has led to independent investigations being obstructed. People are demonstrating across Serbia, from Kikinda to Vranje, Uzice to Pirot.

Prebilic said that students, professors, lawyers, doctors, theatre directors, and actors are on the streets because they want a transparent and accountable government with respect for fundamental freedoms.

**European Union Must Act**

Prebilic warned that without trustworthy institutions, a credible political process, or leadership willing to bridge divides, Serbia faces an ever-deeper crisis. He said that European values are at stake in Belgrade and Europe must support the Serbian citizens now.

The MEP demanded the immediate fulfillment of all student demands as essential preconditions for a full investigation into the Novi Sad tragedy. He called on the European Commission to recognize the severity of this crisis and condition its engagement with Serbian authorities on genuine accountability of their officials.
