Estonia Imposes Sanctions on Georgian Officials

The Estonian government has added 14 more Georgian officials to its list of people banned from entering the country. This includes Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

The decision was made by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna. He also called on other European Union (EU) countries to take action against those responsible for violence against protesters, journalists, and opposition leaders in Georgia.

Tsahkna described the actions of Georgian authorities as “criminal” and a violation of human rights. This is not the first time Estonia has taken action against Georgian officials. In December, Tsahkna and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis published a list of individuals banned from entering the Baltic states.

This includes Georgia’s former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili and Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri. The foreign ministers of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia previously announced a joint agreement to impose national sanctions on those involved in suppressing legitimate protests in Georgia.
